2011 BMW M3 Pickup

The presence of the BMW M3 Pickup be a surprise BMW M for his fans. Global Introduction of the BMW M3 on Nordschleife Pickup performed (Nürburgring), 1 April 2011.

The BMW M3 Pickup has undergone extensive testing on the Nurburgring, and even though we do not have an official lap time yet, the automaker informs that this baby can reach speeds of up to 300 Km/h.

The M3 pickup comes with a 309 kW/420 PS (414 bhp) power plant and a rear payload capacity of 450 kg - which sounds realistic enough. Its cd quotient (aerodynamic flow) in the wind tunnel is the same as on the M3 Coupe and its top speed is 300 km/h (186 mph).

Press Release

Unique: BMW M GmbH Develops The Worlds Fastest Pickup.

Drive and suspension technology from the BMW M3 - comprehensive testing completed on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife - 420 hp and 450 kg load capacity - world premiere on 1 April 2011.

Following the BMW M3 Coupe, BMW M3 Convertible and BMW M3 Sedan, a fourth body variant of this globally successful high-performance sports car is about to cause a stir. Under the strictest secrecy, the worlds first high-performance pickup has been created at the BMW M GmbH development centre. The sportiest example by far in this vehicle category, the BMW M3 Pickup will fire the imaginations of all motorists with a deep appreciation of top performance matched by a keen practical bent. 309 kW/420 hp under the bonnet and a rear-axle load capacity of up to 450 kilos take the hallmark BMW M relationship between race-oriented driving pleasure and everyday utility to an entirely new level. This unique vehicle has already completed extensive test and set-up drives on the Nürburgrings Nordschleife in advance of its global unveiling on 1 April 2011.

With this vehicle, BMW M GmbH once again furnishes evidence of its exceptional competence in developing and building high-grade, individual dream cars. With a high-revving V8 engine at the front, a generously sized load area behind and a removable Targa roof above, driver and passengers in the BMW M3 Pickup will relish an unprecedented take on the familiar M feeling. Yet this spectacular new development is unmistakably recognisable as a member of the BMW M3 model family. Corroborating this kinship are not just the inimitable power of the engine, but also fine-tuned aerodynamics and a tailored suspension set-up. Measurements in the wind tunnel at the BMW Groups Aerodynamic Test Centre showed a Cd factor on a par with that of the BMW M3 Coupe. Like every BMW M model, the BMW M3 Pickup has also demonstrated its dynamic potential on the North Loop of the Nürburgring. Official lap times have not yet been released, but the needle in the dial vouched for a top speed of 300 km/h.

The kerb weight of the worlds fastest pickup undercuts that of the BMW M3 Convertible by around 50 kilograms. Removing the Targa roof shaves off a further 20 kg while at the same time lowering the cars centre of gravity.

This most unusual experience of top-down driving pleasure in a BMW M3 thus goes hand in hand with further optimised dynamic handling.

The practical features of the BMW M3 Pickup are no less impressive. Maximum load capacity has been raised to 450 kilograms. The load bed of the BMW M3 Pickup is clad in high-grade structured aluminium sheeting and provides the biggest cargo capacity ever offered on a BMW M vehicle. In terms of the unit of measurement generally applied to premium automobiles, that gives the loading area of the BMW M3 Pickup the capacity to carry up to 20 standard 46-inch golf bags. Whats more, the BMW M3 Pickup is the first BMW M3 variant in the 25-year-plus history of this model range to come with a trailer tow hitch.

Notwithstanding these unquestionable stand-out qualities, the BMW M3 Pickup will not be heading for the golf course or series development, but will retain its status as an exclusive one-off. It is earmarked for use as a workshop transport vehicle for BMW M GmbH. With this in mind, the current BMW M3 Pickup - unlike a similar predecessor built back in the 1980s - has gone through the requisite procedures to earn its road certification. Which makes it officially a truck - but one that puts a whole new spin on the meaning of the word.

How Do I Replace the Oil in a BMW 528i

1. Warm the engine up to operating temperature so that oil will drain out completely. Park the BMW on a flat, level surface. Lift the front passenger side of the car with a floor jack, using the factory jacking point. Lower the car onto a jack stand placed under the front cross member. You can leave the jack in place for added security if you prefer. Alternatively you can drive the front of the car up onto a pair of ramps.
2. Locate the oil drain plug, which is on the oil sump and points down at an angle. Place an oil catch container under the oil drain plug. Use a 17 mm socket to loosen and remove the drain plug. Let the oil fully drain into the container. Loosen the oil cap in the engine bay to speed the process.
3. Locate the large, cylindrical container with a 36 mm nut on top. This is the oil filter housing. Unscrew the 36 mm nut with a socket and ratchet. Remove the cap and the filter as a unit. Remove the filter and then the O-ring located in the cap by gently prying it out with a screwdriver.
4. Install a new O-ring in the cap. Lightly coat the O-ring with engine oil. Install the new filter onto the cap. Make sure all the oil has drained out of the engine and then reinstall and tighten the filter and cap.
5. Wipe off the drain bolt. Remove the old crush washer from the drain bolt. Install a new crush washer on the bolt. Install the drain bolt and tighten it to 21 foot-pounds. Remove the oil cap on the valve cover and pour 7 qts. of oil into the engine. Tighten the oil cap. Start the engine and let it get up to operating temperature or drive it. Ensure there are no leaks.

How to Remove the Center Console on a BMW 740i

1. Drive the BMW 740 into your garage or driveway because if you perform this removal procedure on the side of the road it will look like you are stealing the stereo. Place the 740 in Park and pull the emergency brake to make sure it does not shift while you are working on it. Make sure the car is off before you continue.
2. Pull the two plastic cup holders out from the center arm rest by hand. Unscrew the Philips head screws at the bottom of the cup holder holes. Go to the back seat of the 740 and pull the ash tray out from the rear of the front center arm rest. Unscrew the two Philips head screws that are underneath. Pull the center arm rest up and then back and place it to the side so that it does not get bent. Pull the emergency brake jacket off and the center plastic bezel from around the shifter.
3. Pry the bottom of the center console bezel up with a flat screwdriver. Be very gentle, as you can easily crack the plastic. Work the screwdriver in the seam between the center console bezel and the rest of the dash. Pull the center console bezel straight back and then up once all the pegs are disengaged. Place the center console somewhere safe, as it too is prone to cracking.

How to Replace the Power Steering Pump on a BMW

1. Remove the lower splash guard by turning its bolts in a counterclockwise direction. There are four bolts holding it in, and removing it will give bottom access to the power steering pump.
2. Drain the fluid from the pump by uncapping it and siphoning the old fluid out with a turkey baster or similar device. Fluid can be collected in a drain pan.
3. Remove the drive belt by turning the tension pulley in a clockwise direction, as it is threaded opposite of most manufacturers pulleys. Once this pulley has released its tension, the belt can be slid off of the power steering pump, which is on the bottom right of the motor.
4. Unbolt the power steering pumps bolts in a counterclockwise direction.
5. Uncouple the pumps lines by turning the nuts in a counterclockwise direction with a line wrench. Some models will have disconnects on the pump, and the hardware should be saved for reuse unless the new pump has replacements.
6. Remove the pump from the vehicle by pulling it towards the front and away from the car.
7. Replace the pump with the new one, reconnecting its lines and tightening the mounting bolts.
8. Replace the drive belt and tighten the tension pulley by turning its bolt in a counterclockwise direction. The belt should have about an inch of play.
9. Fill the power steering pump with fresh fluid by cranking the car and moving the steering wheel back and forth while pouring fluid into the pump. Do not overfill the pump, as the pressures inside of it are very high.

I Replaced the Battery and My BMW X5 Won 039 t Start

1. Turn your ignition key in your BMW X5 so you can power electrical devices, but dont try to start your engine. Turn on your headlights and other electrical equipment. Check how bright the headlights are and how fast the heater-fan is turning. If the lights are dim and the heater-fan turns slowly you probably have a discharged battery.
2. Turn the ignition key further and attempt to start your car. If the engine doesnt turn over or turns over very slowly then your battery has little or no power.
3. Check the battery cables are securely connected on the battery terminals. Poor connections mean the power necessary to turn your starter motor cant pass through the connection and gives the same result as if the battery is flat. Undo the battery cables using a wrench then re-tighten them. Try to start your BMW X5. If it wont start, its not the terminal connections.
4. Get someone to give you a jump-start. Position the other car so the two batteries are close enough to attach battery cables. Use battery cables and attach the positive cable to the other cars positive battery terminal and then connect the opposite end to the positive terminal on your battery. Repeat the process by connecting the negative cable to the negative terminals of the other car, and then to your BMW X5.
5. Turn on the engine of the other car. Increase the revolutions slightly. Attempt to turn on the engine of your BMW X5. If it starts, your battery is dead. If it doesnt start you need to get it checked out by a professional. If it started, run the engine to charge the battery. Go for a short drive then leave your car off for several hours.
6. Check to see if your car starts. If it does your battery is fine. If it doesnt start, your battery isnt holding a charge so you should take it back and replace it.

How to Get Better Mileage in a BMW X5 4 4

1. Use cruise control to set your cars speed, with a maximum of approximately 65 miles per hour. Gas mileage typically decreases the faster you drive.
2. Reduce any excess weight that you might have in your car. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, the miles per gallon fuel consumption of your car decreases by 2 percent for every extra 100 pounds in the vehicle.
3. Keep your engine properly tuned. Change your spark plugs and fuel filter every 30,000 miles, in addition to changing your X5s oil at 3,000- to 5,000-mile intervals. A dirty fuel filter and bad spark plugs can cause the engine to misfire and burn more fuel than necessary. Additionally, regularly clean your air filter to ensure that the engines recommended air-to-fuel ratio is retained.
4. Make sure your tires are properly inflated, according to the inflation specifications printed on the rear door sills of your X5. The inflation specs can vary depending on the laden weight of your vehicle.
